This is Katya’s 2nd year on Beyond Words, and she’s looking forward to another great year! She is thoroughly enjoying working under Ms. Kate’s direction, learning from her creativity, boundless imagination, and fun and unique ways of teaching. Katya also loves dancing with the older girls on BW and is glad she has them to look up to and learn from.
Katya is in the 7th grade and began dancing at age 4 at Salt Creek Ballet and the Ukrainian School of Ballet and Folk Dance in Chicago. She later trained in jazz, hip-hop and lyrical at the Center for Dance, and in 2009 she began dancing competitively with Expression Dance Company, where she earned several scholarships at regional competitions. In addition to dance, Katya took gymnastics classes at BIG starting at age 4, and joined their competitive team at age 9.
Katya was inspired to dance by her mother, who was also a dancer and still teaches today. She also thanks Miss Kristin and Miss Amber for helping her become the dancer she is, Miss Cassie and Miss Micki for teaching her musical theater, and Miss Kate and Bailee for making her a better lyrical dancer. She would especially like to thank all her instructors for teaching her how to dance from the heart.
